John Anthony DeSimone

1968 PhD Graduate in Biophysics

Dissertation Title: Transport and Reaction in Enzymatically Active Artificial Membranes: A Theoretical and Experimental Analysis

PhD Dissertation Advisor: Dr. S. Roy Caplan, Harvard Medical School

Dr. John DeSimone combined electrophysiology and cell physiology to unravel paracellular ion pathways, pH regulation, and modulation of taste receptor activity.  His mechanistic studies of ion channels and transporters governing salt and sour taste, emphasized how pH, osmolarity, ethanol, and nicotine modulate taste responses.

Dr. John DeSimone sadly passed away in February, 2019.
