Dissertation Title:  Dynamics of HIV Treatment and Social Contagion

Alison did her undergraduate studies in physics at Queen's University (Kingston, ON, Canada), and spent her summers doing research at Dalhousie University (Halifax, NS, Canada), during which she worked on new MRI techniques and modeling pattern formation in cyanobacteria. As a member of the Harvard Biophysics program from 2007-2013, she worked under the supervision of Martin Nowak (Mathematics, Organismic & Evolutionary Biology) on developing mathematical models to optimize HIV treatment, as well as on transmission dynamics of infectious diseases in complex population structures. She was a joint student with the HST MEMP program, a chair of the GSAS Science Policy Group and the GSAS Canadian Club, a Dudley Fellow, and a Commencement Marshall. From 2014 - 2020 Alison was a research fellow at Harvard while holding the NIH Director's Early Independence Award, and from 2020-2025 she was faculty in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Currently, her research group develops mathematical and computational tools to understand, predict, and control the dynamics of infectious diseases in patients and populations, with past work on HIV/AIDS, SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19, RSV, KSHV, and drug resistant infections.
